Maintaining the food database is an important and ongoing task. New information is added to the database on a continual basis and we do our utmost to ensure its accuracy.
Not at all! The food database contains several thousand foods such as meats, fish, poultry, fruit and vegetables. Our approach is realistic in that we know convenience foods feature in many people's diets. Start using the food diary 'where you are now', but then try to include more meals you prepare yourself with fresh produce - as far as your budget and lifestyle allows. The huge benefit of home cooked meals is that you control exactly what goes into it! Organic produce, no salt and little or no fat is the direction to be heading - less processed foods and more fresh!
The 'My Meals' feature will calorie count your favourite home cooked meals and recipes. Enter the ingredients and the system works out the calories per serving. You need to invest a little time in setting up your recipes, but once done, you can save this information in your personal online Recipe Book. You can then quickly add a serving to your food diary.
There are different ways to search our food database (by category, by text or by barcode). If you can't find what you're looking for using one method, then try another as the product is generally in the database. If you can't find the exact product, then you will usually find a similar item or different brand that you can use instead.
Food manufacturers reformulate products on a continual basis, and despite our best efforts, from time to time you may discover a product before we do. If this happens, just click on the link below the Results box to 'Report a change in nutritional data' and our Data Capture team will investigate. No data entered by a member is added to our database before we have validated it.
